  • Chilled water piping

Chilled water piping carries chilled water from the chiller to spaces where cooling coils are located for conditioning spaces.

  • HVAC Air Conditioner Leaking - Air Handler Evaporator Coil Condensation Drain - Condensation Leaks

This is an air conditioner condensation drain pipe drains the condensation from the evaporator coil. The evaporator coil operates below the dew point when the system is in air conditioning mode. As humid air passes over the cold evaporator coil the humidity or moisture in the air condenses. The condensation runs down the coil and into a condensation drain pan. Attached to the condensation drain pan is the condensation drain pipe. This air handler condensation pipe usually terminates outside the building at the base of the foundation. On very humid days lots of humidity or condensed moisture is removed from the air when the air conditioner is running. It is important for the condensation drain pipe to remain open or unclogged so this condensed moisture can drain properly. If you find moisture around the base of an air handler it is quite possible that this air handler condensation drain pipe is plugged and needs to be flushed.

Notice this pipe has insulation on the horizontal run. The pipe insulation is black and is called rubatex. The rubatex insulates the condensation pipe keeping it from sweating. If the air handler condensation pipe were to sweat it would leave the area under the air handler condensation drain pipe wet and this leads to water damage and mold. It is very important to make sure all the moisture created by the condensed moisture and air handler condensation drain pipe drain to the outside of the dwelling to prevent water damage and mold growth.

  • HVAC Duct Work - Air Handling Unit Duct - Air Handler Duct Work Photo

HVAC Ductwork delivers the conditioned air to the spaces. The Air Handling Duct channels this conditioned air to spaces where it is needed and then a return duct channels the air back to the air handling unit duct for re-conditioning. The return ductwork has a negative pressure while the supply ductwork has a positive pressure. In commercial systems and toght residential homes it is necessary to add fresh air to this conditioned air so the air remains fresh and healthy for the occupants of the structure. This is required by the mechanical code and often this air comes through ductwork from the outside.

Depending on the type of building and type of occupancy will depend on what the code says about the quantity or amount of fresh air ventilation required. Natural ventilation is applicable to this where there is no fan to force the air into the space or building where it is required to have fresh air introduced into the spaces which people will be occupying. It is important to note that when fresh is forced into the building with a fan that another opening or duct be used for relief air ventilation to avoid over pressurizing the building.

  • Mini-split Air Conditioner Condensers

These mini-split condensers are also called ductless air conditioner systems. A mini-split air conditioner can also provide heating with electric heat in the air handler section or if the condenser is also a heat pump. Heat pumps, whether they are mini-split systems, regular split systems, or package units use the process of refrigeration to provide heating and cooling. A mini-split air conditioner can be either just an air conditioner or a heat pump system. Mini-splits, whether they are heat pumps or just cool only, are commonly used in applications where it is difficult or impossible to run duct work.

Some office buildings utilize mini-splits as well as other types of applications. Mini-splits are also widely used in Europe and Asia in place of regular full size ducted split systems or package units. There some models of HVAC mini-split condensers which allow multiple ductless air handlers to attached to a single HVAC mini-split condenser. This allows a single HVAC mini-split condenser to serve multiple ductless air handler zones in different spaces. Some of these HVAC mini-split condensers have two compressors or a single compressor will have the ability to unload so that when the demand is only fifty percent or less the system will only provide fifty percent capacity.

  • HVAC Supply Diffuser Round - HVAC Duct Work Supply Vent - HVAC Air Supply Diffusers

HVAC Supply Diffuser Round type can be practical in many different applications for an HVAC Duct Work Supply Vent. HVAC Air Supply Diffusers channel the air into the space and to places where there are heat loads to be cooled. HVAC Air Supply Diffusers can be purchased in many different colors and styles but the important part of HVAC air supply diffusers is where they are positioned in the space which needs to be conditioned. It is very important that these HVAC air supply diffusers be positioned in a place where they cancel the load whther this be a heating load or a cooling load.

Many heat loads and cooling loads will be on the outer walls, near windows, and near doors. This is the area in the home or building where the most heat will be absorb either to the outside or to inside depending on if it is winter or if it is summer. In the summer heat is absorbed into the structure and in the winter the heat moves towards the outside of the structure. It is important that these HVAC Air Supply Diffusers be positioned in such a place as to cancel out these loads.
